Travelers to Geneva this Summer

For any travelers to Geneva this summer, from July 1 through July 26, be sure to catch a Theatrical performance of “John Calvin” in front of the Reformers’ Wall. One highlight of the Calvin Jubilee is this impressive theatrical performance in the Parc des Bastions, with room for an audience of 1500. The stage in front of the Reformers’ Wall, built for the 500th anniversary of Calvin’s birth, could not be a more appropriate setting.
The thread which runs through the play is Calvin’s encounter with Reformed Geneva, the vigorous controversies in the city, the assent or rejection of the various parties, the political struggles and what was at stake in them.

Text: Michel Beretti, author of more than 60 plays. Direction: François Rochaix, until June 2008 Director of the Théâtre de Carouge, director of the last Fête des Vignerons (1999). Twelve actors will represent the main characters, and professional musicians will accompany the performance. A simultaneous translation into English and German is available.

Place and time: Geneva: Parc des Bastions (in front of the Reformers’ Wall), 21.00 h
Price: between CHF 15 and 80; reductions for families.

Responses

  1. It would be great to get some reformed speakers to preach on Calvin and Calvinism in Ulster (Northern Ireland). I don’t know of any events upcoming. I just found this site, and I hope God uses its resources!

  2. Thanks for this information. What is the date?
Is there a local website with more information?
    Also it’s ‘500th’ not the ‘400th’ anniversary!
    Thanks.
